LESS THAN KIND
TITLE SEQUENCE

BREAKTHROUGH FILMS

Breakthrough films recently enlisted Cuppa Coffee to produce an opening title sequence for Less Than Kind - a quirky new show about a dysfunctional Jewish family living in Winnipeg. Breakthrough had already developed a montage of driving shots and broadcaster CityTV had requested that the opening include shots of the cast. Taking inspiration from an iconic Winnipeg highway sign with arrows pointing in all directions, the opening sequence ties the imagery together in a way that manages to effectively communicate the central themes and tone of the show.

THE LOST EPISODE OF
ED EDD n EDDY PROMO

CARTOON NETWORK

Cartoon Network came to Cuppa looking for an Indiana Jones inspired spot to promote their Ed, Edd n Eddy Marathon. With only two weeks to get it done, our build crew worked around the clock to create a scale model cave with a track on which to mount a camera, creating a traveling shot that Spielberg would envy! Watch for plenty of EEnE inside-jokes scattered throughout the cave, such as a turkey baster, which is in one episode referred to as a Canadian Squirt Gun!

HP "My World"

PUBLICIS

This spot, part of Hewlett Packard’s “The Computer is Personal Again” campaign, shows off the new series of HP Pavilion’s Notebook PC with all the bells and whistles. The animation was put together in Flash with a little polishing done in After Effects. The laptop in the end tag was shot in stop-motion on a turntable and enhanced in post-production. The finished spot can be seen on TV and in cinemas.

COCA COLA
COKE ZERO

RED LOUNGE SHANGHAI

The creative for this spot was to introduce Coke Zero to China. Cuppa Coffee was selected to create a stop motion Press Conference scenario that introduces NBA stars Yao Ming and Yi Jianlian as not only "Bobbleheads", but inadvertent spokesmen for the new Coke Zero. Playing not just to the two characters' huge popularity in China, the spot also offers some subtle comedy with some even more light hearted spots destined for an additional online campaign.

This marks the first time Cuppa Coffee has worked in and for the Chinese advertising market.

LEWIS BLACK -
THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL

COMEDY CENTRAL

Cuppa Coffee was commisioned to create the opening of the new Lewis Black show on Comedy Central. The open was to reflect the diverse topics that the show would pit against one another as to which was more evil!
The shows design used elements of stop motion, cg and flash to create a hybrid style that surrounded a live action shoot of Lewis Black himself.

SCREAM AWARDS 2007 PROMO

SPIKE TV

When Spike TV needed some spooky spots promoting their upcoming 2007 Scream Awards, they turned to the frighteningly fresh minds at Cuppa Coffee Studios. Spike TV wanted the spots to be creepy and dark, but they still needed to speak to their male audiences with some sexy female characters and rock music. All the boards and designs were created in-house at Cuppa Coffee, who also handled everything from puppet build to supervising sound design and final mix, with Spike TV providing the rock music track. The finished spots are a blend of creepy and cool with a dash of comic camp.

EASTERN PROMISES

David Cronenburg

Cuppa Coffee was recently enlisted by David Cronenberg to provide the title sequence for Eastern Promises, which recently won the People’s Choice award at the Toronto International Film Festival. This marks the third time the two parties have collaborated, with Cuppa Coffee previously providing credits for Cronenberg’s eXistenZ and Spider.

The typographic credits are presented along with large black and white photographs of body parts adorned with iconic Russian criminal tattoos. Inspired by the meditative final scene of the film, the slow and deliberate presentation of the tattoo imagery creates a contemplative rhythm for the audience as they watch the visual epilogue unfold.

ESPYS AWARDS
LEBRONTOURAGE

ESPN

Cuppa Coffee was recently approached to bring some of the world's most celebrated sports superstars into the world of stop-motion animation for a segment to air during ESPN's 2007 ESPY Awards.

The spot features the animated hijinx of a group of sports celebrities living "Reality Television" style in Lebron James' mansion - from playing "Jenga" with solid gold bricks and gorging on his food to offering each other a little uninvited support in their training regimens. The celebrities, voiced by their real life counterparts, include Serena Williams, Ben Roethlisberger, Reggie Bush, Lance Armstrong, Shaun White, sports announcer Stuart Scott and of course, the star of the spot, LeBron James. Shaquille O'Neil & Mike Tyson also make surprise appearances, but are voiced by actors.

CARTOON NETWORK

March Madness Promo

Cartoon Network - March Madness Promo

The Cartoon Network wanted something with an 'old skool' film feel to promote March Movie Madness. The idea that 35-mm motion picture film would snake and slither to life had all of us familiar with splicing and squawk boxes excited. Hiding rigging along very thin frame lines and dealing with multiple layers and reflections made this project, to quote veteran stop-motion animator Alex Gorelick, "One of the hardest things I'd ever animated."
